A Story for Moms:
A mother came across a poem attributed to Rhea Miller and was touched by its message. She put a copy of the poem on the piano knowing that her musically gifted son would read it. When he sat down on the piano bench and read the words, he immediately put the poem to music:
"I'd rather have Jesus than anything,
I'd rather be his than have riches untold,
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands,
I'd rather be led by His nail-scarred hands.
"I'd rather have Jesus than man's applause.
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause,
I'd rather have Jesus than world-wide fame,
I'd rather be true to His holy name.
"He's fairer than lilies of richest bloom,
He's sweeter than honey from out the comb
He's all that my hungry spirit needs,
I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead.
"Than to be the king of a vast domain,
Or be held in sin's dread sway,
I'd rather have Jesus than anything
The world affords today."
He also dedicated his musical talents to be used to glorify God and not the applause of men. The son's name? George Beverly
Shea.
Ah, the contagion of a mom's loving heart.
Care to sing along with me?
