Truth 10
Someone else has said, "Simplicity carried to extremes is elegance." We live in a world and Christian community that believes that spectacular is proof of authenticity. We should expect the world to have that viewpoint. But not the church. But we are being told that the faithful disciple will have all his diseases cured, be financially prosperous, know his future, experience unabated excitement, and so on.
Jesus, however, defined discipleship this way.
"In the world you will have tribulation."
"My strength is made perfect in weakness."
"Deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow me."
"You must drink the cup that I drink."
"Lay not up for yourself treasures on earth were moth and rust destroy, and thieves break in and steal."
Jesus was called a man of sorrows, having no place to lay His head, despised, denied and deserted by His closest friends when He needed them the most.
Don't be drawn away from the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus. Serve Him in the dusty road of every day living. Demonstrate your confidence in His love by living a life of contentment no matter your circumstances. Embrace the sorrows that He uses to make you a comforter of others, an ambassador of the God of All Comfort. Use whatever resources He has given you to touch the lives of the poor and oppressed in the church and in your neighborhood. Make the majesty of Jesus undeniable in the humdrum of your everyday walk in obedience to Him. Now, that's "spectacular."
