A Sinner
There's a simple reason that Paul starts his epistles with truth
concerning the depth of our sin. As Jesus told us the person who has
been forgiven much, loves much. When I am struggling with obedience it
is often because I am thinking of myself more highly than I ought to
think. Oh, that's not moping around feeling sorry for myself. No, it's
forgetting the inconceivable truth of how deeply I needed a Savior and
how deeply now I need a heart of confession and thankfulness that He is
still forgiving me--defending me before the Father. If I truly
understand His grace and mercy, loving obedience flows from my daily
life--it becomes a joy.
