Remarkable Faith
The
faith of Abraham is really quite remarkable, but it is the same faith
required of each of God's children. He still asks, "Will you go on
today in the direction I send you without having the slightest idea of
where you'll end up? Will you give up everything to do so? Will you
risk taking the ones you love with you--your Sarahs--with you?" Such
was the first test of Abraham's commitment to walk
before God and trust the results to Him alone. Such is the first test
of our faith. God calls us to follow Him wherever He takes us. To take
our tents and go forward to the place of His leading. And to keep
those tent pegs in dirt not cement. He also asks us to take that one,
or those ones, we love along with us. We must trust them to His care as
well. How can we do that? We must set our sights on Home. We must
keep our focus on the heavenly city. Heavenly treasures must be the
sole desire of our hearts. The trip will not be an easy one.
Disappointment, failure, danger, and greater tests of faith await us.
But if we walk before Him, the disappointment will become blessing, the
failure will become victory, the danger will become deliverance, and the
greater tests of faith will deepen our love for, and our trust in, Him.
As our faith matures into faithfulness, we will find that it is His
faithfulness that secures the journey Home. As we eagerly await the
tearing down of our tents for the last time, we will devotedly walk in
faithful obedience to where He leads us in the meantime. Going not
knowing is far more fulfilling that knowing but refusing to go.
