The Dusty Road

We often fail to look for our Savior where He is most easily found and readily available--in the common place, on the dusty road of everyday life. We search for Him in miracles, in the Pastor's rousing sermon, in special conferences and seminars, in exciting, entertaining worship, but He is there in the immediate, in the now, in the drudgery of everyday. For that is when we need Him most--in the difficulties, disappointments, and dejection of our everyday circumstances. It is there that we need our eyes opened to see Him, our souls gently assured or prodded by the Scripture we have hidden in our hearts.
Remember those two disciples on the road to Emmaus who were dejected and confused because they failed to understand God's Word and thus what was going on after the resurrection? They, like us, were demanding an answer from God--spiritual lust--instead of seeking Him Who is the answer. And when they least expected it, He was there to assure their hearts and encourage them. And it took them awhile to figure out they were being encouraged. I believe it was Augustine who said, "Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore, seek not to understand so that you may believe, but believe so that you may understand."
Do you need God in the dusty road of everyday? "The Lord is at hand." He hears the slightest whisper, the unspoken sigh, and He treasures every unseen tear. Ask Him to make His presence known to you. Reach out and take the hand that was scarred that He might be with you always. He would love nothing better than to spend His day--to spend this entire day--walking hand and hand with you.
