The Missing
Please
remember that for many--perhaps even for you and me--these holiday
times have sadness intermingled with the celebratory joy. There is an
empty chair at the table. Faces are missing from among the celebrants.
I pray that the God of all comfort will make His presence known today.
And don't be critical of their tears or of yours. Are we not commanded
to "weep with those who weep"? And aren't
we instructed that "there is a time to mourn"? And yes, there is "a
time to dance" as well. Perhaps today we can do both. "Laugh with
those who laugh." Our sorrow has a sure hope. One day with His
nail-scarred hands He will wipe all tears from our eyes. Happy
Thanksgiving! Give thanks to God. Celebrate. Mourn. Dance. I love
you all because I am a flawed, finite person deeply loved by the holy,
infinite God--my Father.
