Windows
I suppose that the first thing we think of when we see or hear the word "windows" in today's culture is computers--or maybe Bill Gates. Or when one of my students. trying to see the notes on the board accused me of being a "better door than a window," I always told them how disappointed I was because "I always wanted to be a pain." Sorry, I couldn't resist using at least one pun today.
But that's not the windows I want to talk about. What came to my mind was that old chorus, "The windows of Heaven are open; the blessings are falling tonight. There's joy, joy, joy in my heart, since Jesus made everything right. I gave Him my old tattered garment, He gave me a robe of pure white; I'm feasting on manna from Heaven, and that's why I'm happy tonight." Or something like that. You get the idea though. God is in the blessing business. And way too often, we forget that.
The truth of the matter is, just the blessing of redemption should be more than enough to constantly put our hearts in a state of joy. My righteousness has been replaced by His! The old Negro spiritual says, "And when I get to Heaven, goin' to put on my robe and walk all over God's Heaven." In reality, though, I have already put on my robe. "My life is hid in Christ." I am, right at this moment, clothed in the righteousness of Christ. "There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." If that doesn't bring you joy, nothing will.
Don't let all the temporary struggles of life keep you from basking in the blessings that you have eternally in Christ as a child of God. A child of God! Have you ever really meditated on that fact! Regenerated, redeemed, justified, reconciled, adopted, forgiven, enriched, and the list goes on.
The windows of Heaven are indeed open. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." Rejoice and rest in those blessings, and then you can sing "Make me a blessing, make me a blessing, out of my life may Jesus shine. Make me a blessing O, Savior, I pray, make me a blessing to someone today."
