The
priceless treasure of God's Word is more to be desired than the purest
gold or the sweetest honey. Its truths make a man richer than all the
kings of the earth. Obedience to its precepts makes life "sweeter as
the years go by." They warn us and thus keep us from spoiling the joy
of unhindered fellowship with our Lord. By following them in
faithfulness there is great reward.
God's Word gives
us understanding and cleansing. It shows us our errors and gives us
release from the feelings of guilt through confession. A true
understanding and fear of its principles keeps us back from deliberate,
presumptuous sins that shame our Savior and put us in fear of His
discipline in this life--discipline justly deserved. Reading it keeps
us from the misery of being in servitude to sin and Satan; for, there
are only two masters, and everything we do either magnifies our Lord and
His kingdom or enhances the Devil and his purpose to deceive men. How
tragic to be a child of God living like a child of the Devil. Obedience
to God's clear commands delivers us from such rebellion.
The Word
of the Lord. It is His law, His testimony, His statutes, His
commandment, His fear, and His judgments. It is perfect, reliable, the
road to contentment, pure, clean, true, and righteous.
It converts,
restores, makes wise, rejoices the heart, enlightens the soul's eyes,
creates endurance, and gives reason for praise. Is there any wonder why
God says that His Word is the foundation for true riches?
And the question is obvious: How worn are the pages of your Bible?
