Communication
Communication is important, isn't it. For example, if someone you loved refused to talk to you, what conclusion would you draw? Or do you remember when you were a little kid, and you decided to punish someone by inflicting the ultimate punishment--not talking to him anymore? Or what about the time you decided to break off a relationship with a girl or boy friend, what did you do? Stopped communicating, didn't you? No more spending time together, no more notes or letters, no more phone calls, no more emails. And the relationship crumbled. In fact, without communication there can be no relationship at all, can there? Even beyond that, wouldn't you agree that between parents and children, husbands and wives, students and teachers, friend and friend, the quality of the communication determines the quality of the relationship?
Communication is essential in the spiritual realm as well. We call it prayer. God isn't a thing you know. He's a person. And communication with Him is vital to our relationship. Why do you think the Devil makes it so difficult to establish a consistent prayer life? It's because he knows how important it is to our developing a genuine relationship with our heavenly Father. Based on your prayer life, what's your relationship with God? How well do you and I really know Him? In our life has he progressed from being an idea, from being someone or something we know about to being someone we know? Chances are, if I don't understand God--as a person--it's because I never take the time to talk with Him.
Oh, don't worry about how spiritual or inspiring or deep your prayer life is now. Isn't it true that the more you talk to someone, the better you know him, and the better you know him the more honest and rewarding the communication becomes? And the more important that someone becomes to your life. Prayer, communication with God, works that way too.
Pray. Get to really know Him, the Creator-Redeemer of the universe.
Love demands it. It cannot survive without it.
