There
are many Christians who are wrapped up in the loveless love of the
world and its things. Our natural man desires them in order to please
ourselves and to bolster our pride--the greatest lust of the flesh. But
love that is self-centered is a loveless love. Love as God defines it
is always centered away from self.
How many times in pursuit of what we think will bring us fulfillment have we
hurt those who love us--often deliberately. And then we find we are
left with an empty life. We pierce our hearts with the self inflicted
wounds of loveless love. For nothing is more painful than to find that
loving ourselves is actually hating ourselves.
Get off the path of
thorns. "Love one another as I have loved you." "Beloved, if God so
loved us, we also ought to love one another. If we love one another,
God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us."
